Day 1: On Tuesday it was the star of three days of city experience we all meet at fed square at 9:30 our day was delayed because we had to wait for Najah. When Najah finally arrived we all walked down to the shrine. The shrine is a memorable place to all Australians. It has war information and information on all the past soldiers. We split into two groups 9d1 and 9d2. We were shown around by a man called Bernie. First we talked about the First World War. About what they had to carry and how average men decided to join up because it was the first world was and none knew what it was like. After the great stories Bernie told us we went Into this room where on the 11th of September the light trough a little hole in the wall shone through on the remembrance stone. I never knew so much on our brave soldiers that fought for our freedom.
Because we were off schedule because of Najah we only had about 25 minutes to eat our lunch. There were so many seagulls near us, I wanted to fed one a panadol but Miss Dowell was watching. After that 9d1 went to urban seed witch is in this church. We talked about homelessness and higher and lower people in the world. She told us a story about her friend that dressed up as a hobo in a dress up party. While he was walking down the street in his costume and everyone was looking at him differently. A really terrible thing happened when he tried to buy some cigarettes, the shop keeper didn’t let him in. until he showed that he could pay for it. This story opened my eyes a little. People are really treated differently by the way the look. Once the story was over we walked to this café called credo where everyone from homeless to rich business men can come and get a free lunch.
Day 2: we meet up at federation square again thank god Najah wasn’t in our group. We got to pick groups of four to go on a scavenger hunt. I was with Ollie Ellen and Nikki. We didn’t do much of the questions due to Ellen and Nikki going shopping. Of course we had to follow.
Due to the weather we didn’t get to see the street art but that was ok because we got to inside ACMI. After that we were let off early because of the weather.
Day 3: we were divided from boys and girls for a self-defence class the instructor taught us a lot of different things such as palming instead of punching, a push kick and these sorts of karate style things. I really enjoyed the self-defence class. When that was over we had to walk to the Strathmore uniting church where the girls were. Then some of the Monee ponds police officers came and showed us the dangers of sexting and drinking alcohol underage. After that we ended the day with talk to Rory and a few other teachers about being different and not judging other people if they are different to you. Because everyone is special in their own way. That sums up the Dunlop year 9 city experience.
